PORTABLE ART (October 2008 - December 2010) project aims to ensure the distribution of contemporary art productions and events to remote districts of Istanbul, which are currently only presented to a limited audience in galleries and art centres concentrated in five neighbourhoods. Portable exhibitions, curated by established and up-coming curators are being realized in the art and culture centres, founded and administrated by Istanbul.
Municipalities in almost 20 districts. The vast audiences of Istanbul have now access to contemporary art productions and events in their districts. The project also aims to enable independent curators, exhibition organizers, and artist initiatives to exhibit their works in multi disciplinary exhibitions which adopt an interactive, pluralistic approach open to participation and dialogue with different audiences. Since October 2008, 18 exhibition projects and 3 performances that represented the production of almost 200 artists has reached more than 200.000 people in remote districts like Kartal, Tuzla, Ümraniye, Küçükçekmece, Büyükçekmece, Hisarüstü, Karaköy, Fatih, Caddebostan, Eyüp and Zeytinburnu.

Lives and Works in Istanbul
The project LIVES AND WORKS IN ISTANBUL carried out since 2008 hosted artists from EU countries who have accomplished great projects in visual arts and contributed to universal arts. These artists are provided with opportunities for living, working and producing in Istanbul; and they are ensured to conduct workshops, thought meetings and production together with creative individuals, academicians and local artists of the young generation.
This project eventually comes up with an international modern art collection in Istanbul after the meetings of world-famous names in contemporary art with young talents in Istanbul through workshops where they will make art production altogether . The workshop exhibition of Remo Salvadori, the first artist of the project, was opened in September 2009; and the statue made by Salvadori was installed in Gülhane Park. Six different art works realized by six famous artists take their places in public domain of art collection of the State Museum of Modern Art.
Within the scope of the project “Lives and Works in Istanbul”, Istanbul hosted the prominent names of the contemporary art such as Antoni Muntadas, Remo Salvadori, Danae Stratou, Victor Burgin, Peter Kogler and Sophie Calle.
